This homemade apricot jam is sweet, tangy, and is the perfect summer treat. Learn how to make apricot jam from scratch with just a few simple ingredients you likely already have in your pantry.
Apricot season has arrived! And here at the Milkmaid Farm we have lots of apricot trees that have been producing more fruit than we know what to do with! As me and my two boys were collecting the ripe apricots into a basket the other day, I thought to myself— this is the perfect opportunity to make some fresh apricot jam!
Apricots are one of my favorite fruits— they are the perfect balance of sweet and tart, and are so fresh and juicy. Which is why I am obsessed with apricot jam! If you’ve never tried apricot jam before, then you’re in for a treat.
Spread this homemade apricot jam onto a slice of freshly baked sourdough bread with butter, a warm croissant or scone, or use it to make the kids a peanut butter and jam sandwich. This is a summer recipe you don’t want to miss.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
It tastes like summer. Apricots are the perfect summer treat. They are in season from late spring to midsummer, with peak season in June and July. This stone fruit has a delicate flavor that is fresh and bright, and tastes like sunshine. It’s the perfect summer jam to slather on top of your morning toast and other freshly-baked goods.
This recipe is super easy to make. All you need to make this homemade apricot jam recipe is fresh apricots, raw honey, lemon juice, and water— that’s it! You’ll simply chop up the apricots and add them to a saucepan with all the other ingredients, then simmer to let the flavors combine. If you prefer a smoother jam, you can use an immersion blender to combine the ingredients. It’s an easy recipe that’s made in under 30 minutes that the whole family will love.
It’s healthy for you. Apricots are rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals— like vitamin A and C, as well as potassium, and are rich in fiber. Plus, I use raw honey to sweeten the jam— which is packed with minerals and antioxidants, and has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Store-bought jams often contain processed sugar and preservatives, but this jam is made from ingredients that are actually good for you.

Ingredients
- Apricots- To make this homemade jam, you’ll need fresh apricots— not dried. I recommend going to a farmer’s market or co-op to grab some local apricots to get the freshest, flavorful, and most nutrient-dense fruits available.
- Raw Honey- For this recipe, I use raw honey to sweeten the jam. The floral flavor of raw honey perfectly compliments the delicate balance of sweetness and tang from the apricots— plus its rich in minerals and antioxidants.
- Lemon Juice- I recommend using freshly squeezed lemon juice instead of bottled to achieve the best flavor for this homemade jam recipe.
- Water- Opt for distilled, filtered, or spring water for the best quality and flavor.
- (Optional) Chia Seeds- You can add chia seeds to thicken up the jam and enhance the texture, as well as add an extra boost of fiber.
How to Make Homemade Apricot Jam
1. In a large saucepan, combine diced apricots, water, honey, and lemon juice.

2. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cook for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apricots begin to soften and break down. Use a wooden spoon to mash the fruit as it cooks.
3. Remove from heat and let cool for 15–20 minutes. The jam will thicken slightly as it cools.
4. For a smoother texture, blend the mixture briefly with an immersion blender or in a high-speed blender.

5. Taste and adjust sweetness level if desired. If you prefer a thicker, more gel-like jam, stir in 1–4 tablespoons of chia seeds while still warm, then let sit for 10 minutes to thicken.
6. Transfer to clean glass jars with lids. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week, or freeze for longer storage.
